Hedge Haven Group of Companies

Exciting times at Hedge Haven Farms! Over the last couple of seasons, we’ve partnered with innovative companies transforming how we produce: DJI Agriculture drones for precision spraying, Precision Planting for data-driven seeding, harvesting, and spraying excellence.

This builds on our trusted partners like AgroLiquid (high-tech liquid fertility delivering real soil results), Alpha Agri (standout humic products), Maizex (top-tier corn genetics and our Maizex Corn Maze Enterprises), and Flaman (reliable equipment support), plus our Deer and Steer Butchery.

What ties it all together is running the farm as a true business-ranching for profit, not just tradition. Drawing from Ranching for Profit School principles, we focus on three key levers to boost profitability:

  • Reducing overhead costs through optimized equipment utilization – asking the first-principles question: “What is the simplest, most effective way to get each necessary job done?” Instead of owning everything “just in case,” we match tools and tech (drones, precision planters, lean fleets) precisely to the work required, eliminating waste and idle capital.

  • Improving gross margin per unit by collecting focused, high-leverage data and resisting the temptation to overcomplicate. We track only the few critical numbers-soil test trends, animal performance (gain, conception rates, weaning weights), input costs per unit, and yield/quality outcomes – that actually move the margin needle. Simple, timely data lets us make clear, confident decisions without drowning in unnecessary metrics.

  • Increasing turnover by scaling high-margin enterprises while staying ruthless about de-scaling or eliminating those that slip into low or negative margins. In tough times-when fertilizer prices spike or markets tank-we cut non-essential expenses (like scaling back fertility when the return doesn’t justify it) and deliberately reduce turnover in unprofitable enterprises. Positive cash flow from lower volume often beats bleeding money chasing production. Resilience comes from knowing when to grow and when to shrink.

  • By relentlessly focusing on these three levers, we stay profitable through highs and lows, and we’re grateful for the tools, partners, and mindset making it possible!
